Lessons from the tropics
In a new article in the Amsterdam newspaper ‘Het Parool’ Lyongo addresses some of the key takeaways he has learned by working in the Dutch Caribbean for the past 20 years.
“It can be very simple like plant a tree in front of a south-facing window”, Lyongo states. “Amsterdam can learn a lot from how we deal with heat in the Caribbean.”
The article focuses on adjustments in regards to the climate, as well as social changes that we need to make. As Architect in Residence at ARCAM he is investigating the demographic of the city of Amsterdam. He points out that Amsterdam forgets most of the population, people with a migration background, when it comes to housing needs. “We need to make better buildings for every type of resident.”
