Interviews and publications Kombiná

Over the past months, our documentary Kombiná has received significant media attention worldwide – across various platforms. From radio interviews to articles in newspapers and online news pages, we have had the opportunity to share our story with a broad audience.

From the launch in October 2024 we’ve organized 6 premieres, in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Curacao, Bonaire, St Maarten and Saba. To invite residents and those interested we’ve promoted our documentary via radio, TV and online.

Radio interviews

On 29 November 2024, we spoke on Radio Hoyer in Curaçao during the program Uit de Kunst. More recently, on 2 February 2025, we gave two interviews in St. Maarten—one on Island 92 and another on Laser 101.

During the interview, Lyongo shared his journey into architecture, emphasizing his philosophy of creating inclusive spaces that foster encounters and cultural connection. His designs prioritize meaningful interactions, ensuring that public buildings feel welcoming to people from diverse backgrounds. What does this place need to become more meaningful?” is a question that is central to all his designs. What connects all his designs is space for encounter and connection. His public buildings radiate an inclusive character, in which people from different backgrounds feel at home. His mission? To use architecture to promote social cohesion and cultural inclusivity – everywhere in the world. That is the key message of Kombiná, our documentary on contemporary Caribbean architecture.

Emma Heinhuis, producer of the film, highlighted the filmmaking process, explaining how the initial script evolved to focus more on social themes. “We wanted to go beyond showcasing buildings—it’s about the stories and the people behind them. We started with a script based on the architecture. But when you are making a film, you also have to be able to let your initial ideas go. After we did the first interview we knew that we wanted to change the script and to discuss more social topics – and use our projects as a ‘case-study’. If you work with a good filmmaker and a team, in this case just three people, who dare to let go of the script and set a new, revised course – you can achieve an amazing result!”
