The origin of Amsterdam New West

Starting Friday 28 March, Pakhuis de Zwijger will launch a new series: Doevendansen met Nieuw-West. This program delves into the past, present, and future of the district. Sandra Doevendans will talk to experts and residents, with Lyongo Juliana as a special co-host.

Over the course of three episodes, Lyongo and Sandra will talk to various guests and take the audience through the major changes that shape and influence Amsterdam Nieuw-West (New West).

The first session

This program is a continuation of Sandra’s previous programs about Nieuw-West. On Friday, this new trilogy kicks off with a session on the history and origins of Nieuw-West. This district was originally designed as the ideal residential area, but for whom was it actually intended? And how has this evolved over the years? With guests from the Van Eesteren Museum and the Municipality of Amsterdam, the session will explore the district’s original urban planning vision and migration history.

Join!

You can join this session or the other two sessions for free, online and at Pakhuis de Zwijger (location Piet Heinkade). The first session takes place on 28 March at 19.00h. Lyongo and Sandra are joined by Nabila Bouabbouz (gemeente Amsterdam) and Jorn Konijn (Van Eesteren Museum). The other sessions will explore the social DNA of Nieuw-West and its future.
